A piano and double-bass duo exploring the spaces between the unspoken and the familiar.
Intimate and challenging musical conversations, built in the moment.
JMtet is a free improvisation duo formed in 2023 by pianist Joseph Martin and double bassist Jeremy Marozeau. The duo explores the spaces between the unspoken and the familiar, creating music through spontaneous dialogue rather than fixed forms.
Their playing moves between silence, texture, melody, tension and abstraction, allowing each performance to develop its own direction. The music is rooted in listening and in the interaction between two instruments with very different physical and harmonic possibilities.
Joseph Martin is a self-taught pianist whose musical background also includes classical music, blues and jazz guitar. Alongside music, he works as a painter and photographer.
Jeremy Marozeau is a double bassist with experience performing in jazz clubs internationally. His musical practice is closely connected to his scientific research on music perception and on ways of making musical experiences more accessible to people with hearing impairment.
Préface, JMtet's first album, recorded at the AMR in Geneva in 2024.
The duo's first recorded statement captures JMtet's open approach: piano and double bass meeting without a predetermined score, allowing form, rhythm and harmony to emerge directly from the interaction.
Two distinct backgrounds meeting through improvisation and close listening.
